According to the Royal Mint, the coin featuring an Atlantic salmon on one side and the King’s portrait on the other is the rarest of its kind currently in circulation. This coin has taken the place of the Kew Gardens coin, which has held the top spot in the 50p collectible charts for the past 15 years. The official manufacturer of British coins, located in Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taf, has released its 2023 mintage figures for UK coins in circulation. It confirmed that only 200,000 of the Atlantic salmon 50p coins have been distributed to banks and post offices across the UK, which is 10,000 fewer than the Kew Gardens coin.
