Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies 50pence.co.uk uses, and how you can control them. When you first visit, a banner asks you to choose between "Necessary only" and "Accept all" - you can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device that lets a site remember information between visits. We also use localStorage, a similar browser storage mechanism, for the same purposes.
| Name | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| cookie_consent | Necessary | Remembers your cookie banner choice so we don't ask again. | 1 year |
| 50p-theme (localStorage) | Necessary | Remembers whether you prefer light or dark mode. | Until cleared |
| 50p-cookie-consent (localStorage) | Necessary | Stores your consent choices for this device/browser. | Until cleared |
| _ga, _ga_* | Analytics (optional) | Set by Google Analytics 4 only if you accept the "Analytics" category - distinguishes visitors/sessions so we can see which coin guides are most useful. Only loads after consent, per Google Consent Mode. | Up to 2 years (Google-controlled) |
| _gcl_*, IDE, test_cookie, and other Google ad cookies | Advertising (optional) | Set by Google AdSense only if you accept the "Advertising" category - used to select and measure ads, including personalised ads based on your interests. Only loads after consent. | Up to 13 months (Google-controlled) |
Cookie-less logging
Separately from cookies, our own server logs an aggregate, hashed record of each page request (see our Privacy Policy) regardless of your cookie choice, since this doesn't rely on storing anything on your device and cannot be used to individually track you across visits.
Google Analytics & Google AdSense
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful, and Google AdSense to show ads that help keep this guide free. Both are implemented with Google Consent Mode: they don't load, and don't set a cookie, until you accept the relevant category above. See our Privacy Policy for what data these send to Google, and Google's own Cookies and Ads pages for their full current cookie lists, which we don't control and can't reproduce exhaustively here.
Other third-party cookies
If you click through to royalmint.com, a marketplace, Reddit, Facebook or X, those sites may set their own cookies once you land there, governed by their own cookie policies.
How to control cookies
Use the "Cookie settings" link in the site footer at any time to change your choice. You can also block or delete cookies via your browser settings, though blocking "Necessary" cookies may affect how the Site remembers your preferences.
