Hylaeosaurus completes the trio of dinosaurs - alongside Megalosaurus and Iguanodon - that Richard Owen used to define the new group "Dinosauria" in 1842. Discovered in Sussex and described by Gideon Mantell in 1833, it's less famous than its two Dinosauria series companions but historically just as significant.

Struck for general circulation, the Hylaeosaurus 50p is a common find and a natural companion piece to the other two founding-dinosaur coins.
