Iguanodon was the second dinosaur ever formally named, described by Gideon Mantell in the 1820s from fossil teeth found in southern England. It joined Megalosaurus and Hylaeosaurus as one of the three founding genera when Richard Owen coined the term "Dinosauria" in 1842, and all three feature in the Royal Mint's Dinosauria 50p series.
