Price Guide: £10.00
Issued to celebrate Team GB's campaign at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, this 50p features the Team GB lion logo. Unlike the 2011 London 2012 sports series, this was a single design rather than a multi-coin set, and - unlike most 50p designs - it was not released into general circulation in large numbers, instead being sold mainly through Royal Mint collector packs and Brilliant Uncirculated/Silver Proof editions.
Because it saw limited general circulation compared with a typical commemorative 50p, collectors often rate it a step scarcer than coins like the WWF or Brexit 50p, though it remains more available than genuine low-mintage rarities like Kew Gardens.
Every finish The Royal Mint issued for this design, with issue price, mintage and value where known.
The reverse features the Team GB lion emblem used across the Rio 2016 Olympic campaign.
Current collector guide value is around £10.00, though this varies with condition and demand. See the full variants table on this page for issue prices and mintage by finish.
Mintage figures vary by finish - see the variants table above for the limited-edition cap and current mintage of each version.
It was first issued in 2016.
