Squirrel Nutkin is one of the mischievous characters added to the Royal Mint's Beatrix Potter 50p series, based on Potter's 1903 tale in which the cheeky red squirrel taunts an owl on Owl Island until he loses part of his tail. The coin reverse follows Potter's own watercolour illustrations closely, showing Nutkin using his tail as a makeshift sail.

Like the rest of the Beatrix Potter series, Squirrel Nutkin was struck in substantial numbers for general circulation and is an accessible, affordable find for anyone building a full set of the characters.
